When she was selected by Hong Kong comedy superstar Stephen Chow Sing-chi to feature in his Chinese science-fiction comedy CJ7.
Xu Jiao played the role of a boy in the film CJ7 back in 2008. Out of 10,000 children screened for the part, Hong Kong actor-director Stephen Chow picked her.
Her long tresses shaved to play Chow’s son, and starring opposite an alien dog in the film, Xu impressed audiences with her acting skills.
Chow played the role of Ti, a poor widower who works long hours at a construction site so he can send his son to a posh school.
The film took US$54 million at the global box office, catapulted Xu to overnight stardom.
She won the best new performer award at the 28th Hong Kong Film Awards for her performance.
The emotional challenge of portraying such a character proved daunting for Xu Jiao, who had no acting experience.
The Chinese actress admitted Filming CJ7 was a traumatic experience for her because Chow is so strict.
They have to play every scene 20 to 30 times on average.
Apparently, Xu Jiao has grown up to become a goddess after many years. She not only possesses the cuteness of a girl, but also the confident charm of a supermodel.
Because Xu Jiao loves the culture of Hanfu very much, she often wears Hanfu to show the appearance of “Xianqi”.
At the same time, she actively develops sideline business, establishes a clothing brand, and sells her favorite Hanfu herself.
