Former Ilocos Sur governor and present Narvacan town Mayor Luis “Chavit” Singson has blamed his long-time friend, Senator Manny Pacquiao, for not utilizing his mind for submitting higher excise taxes on t0bacc0 and alc0h0l.
Based on Singson’s statement, Pacquiao’s proposal could h@rm tobacco farmers in the long period because even though, his town and the province of Ilocos Sur may help from the proposal since it indicates additional income from s1n taxes, it may end in lower demand as extra levy could also drive prices to increase.
Pacquiao has been a proponent of increasing taxes on t0bacc0 products to increase funds to help the government’s universal healthcare program.
“Eh kasi pinasok niya ‘yong issue na ‘yan nang di niya alam ‘yong sinasabi niya. ‘Pag tinaas ‘yong excise tax ng sigarilyo, tumataas ‘yong kita namin sa probinsya. Meaning, in short, nagbebenefit kami ‘pag tinaas. Kaya ‘ka ko, sobra na. Makikinabang kami eh, pero sobra na,” Singson said in a phone interviewby the INQUIRER.net.
“Hindi niya alam nine times nang tumaas. Hindi niya naiintindihan, nine times na tinaas, eh sobra na. Baka mamatay ‘yong industriya ‘ka ko, mawawalan ng hanap-buhay ang tao, mawawalan din ng pera ang gobyerno. So sobra na ang taxes, ‘yon lang,” He continued.
Singson also criticized Pacquiao, who is bidding for president in the upcoming 2022 national elections, for bragging that he cannot be commanded following his oppose Singson’s requests concerning the excise tax.
“Up to now hindi niya maintindihan, ‘yong issue na ‘yan hindi niya maintindihan. Syempre ‘pag tinaas mo ang kita namin, ‘wag mo itaas dahil sobra na, nine times na ang tinaas ng taxes. Kawawa ang industriya, masisira ang industriya kung matutuloy ang tax. Hindi niya maintindihan ‘yon up to now,” Singson made clear.
‘Hindi ko pinagbigyan ang kumpare ko […] nagyabang pa eh mali naman ‘yong yabang niya. So ‘di niya ginagamit ang utak niya masyado,” He furthered.
Singson’s remark came following Pacquiao told last Friday that the Ilocos Sur authority had previously removed his support for him after he supposedly stood for “what is right.”
Pacquiao, a world boxing icon, stated he was left in the air by Singson just because he work out the country’s welfare.
Singson, who managed to be a constant in Pacquiao’s entourage at the time of his boxing fights, was remarkably absent at the time of the boxing icon’s last bout versus Cuba’s Yordenis Ugas last August 2021.

Isang Longtime Friend Ni Manny Pacquiao Nagsalita Na Tungkol Sa Boxing Champ: “Nagkasanla-Sanla Po Kami, Nakuha Niya Yung Pera Ng Paradigm, Tinakbuhan Po Kami.”
A longtime ally of Senator Manny Pacquiao spoke out against the boxing champ. In an exclusive interview with SMNI News released on their YouTube account last night, October 17, Jayke Joson revealed why their association with Pambansang Kamao split. Jayke and Manny have been friends since 2004. Jayke has been dubbed the “Pambansang Anino” because he has always been behind the boxer in all its fights.
According to Jayke, their feud is rooted in the fight Manny was supposed to have with Conor McGregor, in Las Vegas, Nevada under Paradigm Sports. Manny allegedly asked for an advance payment of $ 1M or more than P100M.
Jayke revealed, “Ang plano namin ni Senator Manny Pacquiao bago mangyari itong gulo, ‘Jayke, maghanap kayo ng laban na puwede na ako magretiro, at the same time mas marami tayong Pilipinong matulungan.’
“Yun po yung naayos namin ni Mr. Arnold Vegafria—kami po, Arnold Vegafria, ako, si Mr. Ping Nepomuceno—naayos po natin yung Paradigm Sports. Yun po yung Paradigm, ‘yan po yung laban ni Manny Pacquiao at McGregor.”
Arnold Vegafria is Pacquiao’s business manager and head of the Miss World Philippines Organization. Jayke continued,
“So, to cut the long story short again, pumirma si Sen MP sa Paradigm para ayusin na ‘yang laban na ‘yan.”
“And then, dahil sa napapirma na po natin siya, ang gusto niya is… sabihin ko na yung totoo, ha, gusto niyang humingi ng advance, opo, sa Paradigm, na hindi naman nila kalakaran.”
“So, kinausap naming mabuti ang Paradigm para pagbigyan ang ating mahal na senador dahil ang alam namin, itutulong niya kung ano man yung perang ma-raise niya, itutulong niya sa tao, tama po ba?”
He added, “And then, naayos po namin, so nagbigay ang Paradigm.”
“On record po ‘yan, ha, nagbigay ang Paradigm ng $2 million kay Sen MP as a cash advance since lalaban naman siya kung anong gustong palabanan ng Paradigm.”
“Hindi pa po siya nakuntento dun, e, nasabi niya pa sa amin na dagdagan, gawing $4M.”
“So, nakapagbigay na po tayo ng $2M, humingi pa ng another $2M.”
But the fight between Pacquiao and McGregor did not continue. According to Jayke, he and Arnold tried to convince and ask Paradigm Sports again for an additional two million dollars, but it refused because it was not their trend.
It is said that other boxers who have contracted with them may also be upset. As a result, Arnold allegedly decided to raise money from their own pockets. Jayke said,
“So, sabi namin dalawa ni Arnold, tayo na lang gumawa ng paraan para lang mapagbigyan si MP.”
“Nakapag-raise po kami sa sarili naming pera na P65M. So, nakuha po niya P165M sa amin.”
“P65M, sa amin dalawa ni Arnold, personal money. Nagkasanla-sanla po kami para lang itulong at ibigay kay Senator Pacquiao. And then, yung P100M, sa Paradigm.”
“To cut the long story again, part 3, nabigay namin ang pera, nagkasanla-sanla po kami, nakuha niya yung pera ng Paradigm, tinakbuhan po kami.”
“Hindi niya sinunod ang kontrata, hindi niya sinunod yung usapan namin. Para bang yung pagkakaibigan namin ng napakahabang panahon, nabalewala.”
“Na ang interes lang namin is para sa ikabubuti niya.”
Due to the incident, Pacquiao has a pending case in America for breach of contract filed by Paradigm Sports. Senator Manny Pacquiao’s camp has not yet made a statement on the issue. Arnold Vegafria has yet to make a statement about Jayke’s remarks.
Pacquiao’s former best friend, Narvacan, Ilocos Sur Mayor Chavit Singson, first resigned from Pacquiao. This has to do with Manny’s promotion of the tobacco excise tax despite Singson’s request.
