Ruben Matias Cayari or better known by his screen name Ruben Rustia was born on July 25, 1923, in Manila Philippines. He often played the characters of being a father, grandfather, policeman, and many others. He has appeared in numerous film, television, theater, and radio projects. With his contribution to the acting industry, it is no wonder why he was considered to be one of the veteran actors in the Philippines.
Ruben started his career in the film industry as an extra in the 1947 film entitled “Kamay ng Diyos”. He later received a reputation as a character actor in the 1951 film “Taga-Ilog”.
Some of his films in which he was the actor and writer were “Tanikalang Dugo” (1973), “Pedro Penduko” (1954), and “Haring Tulisan” (1956).
His performance as President Ferdinand Marcos in the 1988 film “A Dangerous Life” impressed the audience. The focus of the said film was on the testimony of an American TV journalist to the fall of the Marcos regime. The Manila Standard’s Karla Delgado applauded his portrayal as president, saying he “had Marcos’ voice and mannerisms perfected.”
He also played Kapitan Tiago in Eddie Romero’s miniseries version of José Rizal’s classic Noli Me Tángere in 1993.
Aside from his movie, he also showcase his talent in acting on television, especially his character as Damian Valiente in the drama series “Valiente” which first aired on the Kapamilya network in 1992.
Ruben’s contribution to the acting industry is invaluable. In his performances, he was given recognition and nominations as a sign of his excellence and dedication in his work. These include his winning Best Supporting Actor at FAMAS in 1955 in the film “Pedro Penduko”. He also received many nominations in the Gawad Urian and FAMAS as Best Supporting Actor.
