Poy, also known as Treechada Petcharat or Treechada Malayaporn, was born male in Thailand. Growing up with a strict family was never easy for her. When she was young, she knew she had a woman’s heart.
Every day, Poy hates herself so much because she still looked like a man then. But she had a different mindset: she loves to explore different things. Oftentimes, she secretly wears female clothes; she would then look at the mirror – and an unexplainable pleasure grows inside of her.
Until one time, she was caught by her mother doing this. Consequently, she was beaten and exhorted by the matriarch of their family.
As Poy grew up with her strict parents, her actions were always monitored. She was also forced to play with men’s toys such as robots and cars. She was saddened by these and yet, she did not give up. In an unlikely way, she got a Barbie doll and played with it secretly. For this reason, Poy became glad.
Poy said that she used to live with two personalities. In front of her family and other people, her manners and clothes were purely a man. However, in private, she is a woman.
When she was 17 years old, Poy underwent in a gender reassignment surgery. Based on Google, sex reassignment surgery, also known as gender reassignment surgery, is a surgical procedure by which a transgender person’s physical appearance and function of their existing sexual characteristics are altered to resemble those socially associated with their identified gender.
She felt extremely happy after the operation because that’s the time when she only felt the life she had been dreaming of for a long time. She had no longer secrets to hide from the public. At last, she was free. She did not need to pretend anymore for the reason that she is now a woman.
Although it does not mean that she had already reached her goals; for her life was just starting to take the journey.
There were so many beliefs about people like her in the society. And Poy was aware of these. Her body and physical appearance did change, but not her mind. She was still the strong and courageous Poy.
On 2004, she traveled to Pittaya to join the “Miss Tiffany” – a beauty contest for Thai transgender women. She couldn’t believe that she was announced by the judges and crowned as the “Miss Tiffany 2004” titleholder. After this pageant, she represented the whole of Thailand in “Miss International Queen” and also won.
Poy was recognized as the most feminine looking and most beautiful transgender woman.
Creating a storm inside the beauty kingdom with her uniqueness, it is when her career started to rise. She was offered roles by various films and was also invited to some other special events. Poy’s contribution in the film industry increased and she also became a brand ambassador on one of the telecons in Thailand.
She makes sure that her public and private life is separated. She took the media away from her private life and focused them only with her achievements.
As a celebrity, Poy used her influence to address to everyone that they could reach something if they have this eagerness to get it in their lives. Rather than being ashamed of herself, she always shares her opinions and ideas. She always says how proud she is to be recognized as a transgender beauty queen. She wants to show the world the power of acceptance and how it can change someone’s lives.
The best thing ever happened in her life, according to Poy, was when she undertook the said gender reassignment surgery.
She had nothing to thank but herself because she knew all along that she is the only one who can change her life and not the other people.
Poy’s story is not uncommon, but is extraordinary one. She was braved enough to face the challenges and struggles of her life. She never gave up until it become her way to reach the life she has now.
On her journey, she learned many things. This is the reason why she appreciated the adage which says, “If you believe in yourself, anything is possible.”
