According to her daughter Cathy Sanchez-Babao, her mother was diagnosed with dem3ntia.
According to the website of Izheimer’s Association in the U.S., the Demetia is the “general term for a decline in m3ntal ability severe enough to interfere with daily life.”
Cathy shared on her interview with PEP.ph,
“It’s a long goodbye. Over time, you slowly lose the person. You just prepare for it.”
She also recounted the funny fate that happened to her mother.
She said,
“Once upon a time, shortly after I had graduated from college, I asked her what her dream role was.
“‘You know, ang gusto ko talagang role na i-portray, yun bang matanda na malilimutin na, pero paminsan-minsan, may moment na nakakaalala pa siya? Kahit walang bayad, gagawin ko iyang role na iyan.’”
She added,
“The ironies of life. One must really be careful of what one wishes for.
“At this point, I don’t know whether I should be grateful that she’s now, unknowingly, portraying the dream role she had hoped for many years ago.
“Perhaps it will help in the coping if I reframe things this way. Should I think of it as an answered prayer?”
Meanwhile, among other personalities she worked with, John Lloyd Cruz and Paolo Contis were one of those who open to their plans to visit their “grandmother” when the veteran actress gets vaccinated.
Paolo said,
“Lloydie [John Lloyd] told me nga na hindi pa puwede. I think kausap niya ang anak ni Lola Caridad.
“We’re planning to visit Lola kapag safe na for her to accept visitors, of course. Anytime naman, ready kami to visit her.”
